You’ve just come off of a romantic holiday season. Love is everywhere: couplings Ontario, engagements in Vail, weddings in Sonoma. Then, the pandemic struck and suddenly, all normal life has come to a halt. How on earth do you keep that flame hot when you live in sweatpants and have to mark the calendar when you took a shower last?
When you are in close quarters 24/7, things can get a little routine. With routine comes complacency. Remind your special person that you care by doing something thoughtful. It doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.
At the end of a stressful day, run them a hot bath. Turn the bed down at night so that all they have to do is crawl in the bed. Make each other a snack or a cup of tea. See who can beat the other out of bed to make the coffee first.
Remember that just because you live together in quarantine, everyone still craves affection. A little Private Display of Affection never hurts. Snuggle up or hold hands while watching television. Give each other a little kiss as you pass.
Don’t underestimate the power of a hug, either. It can lower stress and make you feel connected. The release of oxytocin that occurs can instantly boost your mood and relieve tension. It may even help you with resistance to illness by boosting your immune system.
Virtual Date Night
Make a date with your friends on Zoom. Laugh, visit, play games, have dinner parties or even happy hours, all from the comfort of your home. Go ahead and dress up a little for the occasion. It will break up the routine, give you a little sense of normalcy and maybe even ignite a spark.
When it comes down to it, it is all about showing your significant other that they are still desired and appreciated. Little things can make a big difference in making someone feel loved.
