What to Expect from a Cheltenham Hearing Test

Booking a hearing test can be a daunting process but the actual test itself is simple and usually takes under an hour.

Your Initial Questions

They start with a chat about your hearing history, your family history of hearing loss and any situations where you may be struggling to hear e.g. following conversation in a noisy environment. There is nothing for you to prepare for this part of the appointment.

The Ear Examination

Before any blockage in your ear canal due to excessive wax or infection that may affect the results of your test. The test for this is a painless examination using an otoscope (a small, handheld light). This will only take a couple of minutes to complete for each ear.

The Sound Booth Test

For the sound level testing you will sit in a sound proof room wearing a pair of headphones. A series of tones are played through the headphones and you press a button each time you hear a sound. The test measures hearing at a range of frequencies for both ears and typically takes around 10 minutes for a full test.

Results Explained Straight Away

Your results will be plotted on an audiogram which is a simple graph which shows how well each of your ears are able to detect different frequencies. The audiologist will then explain your results to you in simple terms. They will also explain how any tinnitus that you may have relates to your hearing loss.

What Happens Next

Your test will be discussed and options for hearing aids considered should you require them. There is more on Hearing Test Cheltenham at www.imperialhearing.com/audiologist-near-me/cheltenham. The results of your test will be normal and you will be advised of a suitable time to retest.

Most people leave their hearing test knowing exactly where you are and why you may need hearing aids or not and when you should have another test.
